Bateel’s Olive Dates are young, green dates known as khimri that have been carefully pickled straight after harvest. Containing more fibre and less sugar than ripe dates, pickled khimri have a savoury brined quality, similar to olives yet distinct in flavour.

To make Olive Dates, Bateel’s organic khimri dates are pickled in a brine of vinegar and salt and matured for several months. Once the texture has softened, the dates are pitted to remove the seeds, then jarred by hand with herbs, jalapeños and extra virgin olive oil.

Olive Dates are delicious as a canapé or snack and can be substituted in any recipe with olives. Try adding to a fresh salad, Mediterranean stew, or make a unique tapenade by finely chopping the dates along with capers and a splash of the flavourful oil in the jar.
